introductory | 1.34 CM Points/ 8 Contact Hours/ 1.0 CEU/COC Point | Saturday | 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. | Limit: 45

Topics:
Ergonomics, Risk Assessment and Management

Description:
The Ergonomics Committee’s ergonomic assessment toolkit provides a summary of the common tools available to practitioners for ergonomic risk assessment. This PDC will concentrate on basic ergonomic assessment techniques and simple task evaluation. Instructors will provide detailed explanations and practical applications of several basic assessment tools (checklist or diagram-based). A brief overview of the basics for performing an ergonomic assessment will be provided followed by individual descriptions and examples of how to use each of the tools. Instructors will provide details about the structure of each tool along with videos detailing their application in the real world. A hands-on assessment exercise where participants evaluate simulated jobs using the ergonomic assessment tools and a group discussion of uses and difficulties in using the various tools will conclude the PDC.

Value Added:
Includes reference materials, a toolkit, and data-collection sheets.

Prerequisites:
Must have completed a basic ergonomics course and have an understanding of ergonomic principles and assessment

Learning Aids:
Participants must a scientific calculator and laptop.

Outcomes:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

  • Complete a thorough ergonomic risk factor assessment in most industrial settings.
  • Administer a checklist-type ergonomic assessment to assess the risk for lower back and upper extremity injuries.
  • Identify the differences in assessment tools and risky jobs.
