Nonionizing Radiation, Hands-on Measurements - SOLD OUT
intermediate | 1.34 CM Points/ 8 Contact Hours/ 1.0 CEU/COC Point | Sunday | 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. | Limit: 35
Topics:
Exposure Assessment Strategies, Nonionizing Radiation
Description:
Participants will experience several controlled electromagentic field (EMF) exposure situations and be guided through safety standard and equipment selection. Each participant will gain hands-on experience with measurements and record results compared with published safety guidelines to determine compliance. Group discussion to review the evaluation and measurement process and the steps used to evaluate compliance in a workplace situation will also be incorporated into the PDC.
Prerequisites:
Introduction to nonionizing radiation course or familiarity with nonionizing radiation principles and knowledge of EMF safety standards.
Outcomes:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
- Evaluate several typical exposure situations.
- Choose relevant safety guidelines.
- Select survey instruments based on measurement requirements and instrument specifications.
- Obtain measurement data in representative exposure situations.
- Discuss data evaluation and compliance determination.
Outline:
- Evaluate exposure situations
- UV/visible light
- Radio frequency/microwave
- VLF (very low frequency)
- ELF (extremely low frequency)
- Static (DC) magnetic fields
- Evaluation and measurement of selected EMF exposure situations
- Selection of relevant safety standard
- Hands-on measurement and data collection
- Data evaluation
- Compliance determination
Transfer of Knowledge:
Instructors will evaluate participants understanding of the materials presented based on:
- Group Activities
- Hands-On Demonstrations
- Practice Exercises
